K-PSI - largest regional broadband ICT network in Poland under the supervision of CIDG's experts

Under the contract dated 17 October 2006, experts of the Crowley Infrastructure Development Group worked in the capacity of the project inspector for the project involving the launch of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region's Information Network (K-PSI) - one of the largest projects of the type in Europe. The project was co-funded by the European Union under the Integrated Regional Development Operational Programme.

The value of the contract totalled PLN 76 million.

The project involved establishment of a backbone network in DWDM technology, using Cisco ONS 15454, IP MPLS devices, based on Cisco 7600 routers, radio access network, and two centres for network management using Cisco's Info Center platform and MPLS IP Solution Center.

The Crowley Infrastructure Development Group was responsible for supervising and coordinating the work on the active network layer (network across the region down to the level, and inclusive, of municipalities) and ensuring the delivery of the entire project in line with the requirements for projects financed by the European Union. In particular, CIDG's responsibilities included: acting in the capacity of contract engineer, organisation of the design and modification to plans, updating time schedules, monitoring of the progress of individual works, preparation of payment application, indication of risk factors, drafting of non-compliance reports and proposals for corrective actions.

The launch of the ICT network (K-PSI) is Poland's first ICT project of such magnitude, covering an entire region. At the IANIS+ Conference (Brussels), the K-PSI network project qualified as a model regional solution that offers broadband internet access to a greater number of users among 60 selected European Regional Information Society Projects, and ranked among 10 best regional practices in infrastructure (Guide to Regional Good Practice eInfrastructure). Further, the project was nominated for presentation at the Bridging the Broadband Gap conference, and, as the only project from Poland, was presented in Brussels on 14 and 15 May 2008, ranking second among 49 best European projects.
