CIDG hosts the "The Triumph or collapse of the coal-based economy. The climate policy and the prospects for the industry" panel

CIDG is in charge of organizing the panel discussion devoted to "The Triumph or collapse of the coal-based economy. The climate policy and the prospects for the industry" which will take place during the 19th Economic Forum in Krynica. The discussion panel will be lead by Theodor Venners, a long-time adviser to the U.S. Department of Energy. Among the invited guests, the following persons confirmed their presence: Dr. Marion Wilde from the Directorate General for Energy and Transport of the European Commission, Jolanta Strzelec-Łobodzińska – the Deputy Minister of Economy, Dr Janusz Steinhoff – the Former Minister of Economy in the government of Jerzy Buzek, Jerzy Kondratowicz - President of ZEDO and prof. Patric Zimmerman, the founder of GreenCert ™. The panelists will attempt to find the answer whether the carbon-based energy is able to operate successfully in the era of emission limits, and whether the efficiency of existing technologies can be maximized. What benefits and problems arise from joining an international plan of a common legislation on climate change? Will the new regulations require stringent emission measurements and a common "currency" for compensation actions? During the panel, the CO2 model cycle will be discussed, taking into account the industrial emissions and absorption by agriculture and forestry. The panelists will try to determine the possibilities of reducing GHG emissions and the intensification of CO2 absorption into the soil in the coming decade perspective. We will try to find out the extent to which the current European legislation and new proposals developed by the U.S. administration take into account the actual situation. Today's economic policy of the European Union and the U.S. administration will determine the future of coal in the economy. The discussion will be closely based to the present-day business practices. The panel will be held on 10 September at 16:10 in the Ballroom of the Old Spa House in Krynica-Zdroj.
